Cabinet reshuffle:Piyush Goyal gets additional charge as finance minister till Arun Jaitley recovers.
New Delhi:MNN: Cabinet reshuffle, Union minister Smriti Irani was moved out of the Information and Broadcasting ministry in a reshuffle of the cabinet today.
The portfolio will now be fully handled by Rajyavardhan Rathore, who was the junior minister in the department.
Ms Irani was given the vital Information and Broadcasting portfolio as an additional charge last July when Venkaiah Naidu resigned after emerging as NDA’s pick for the post of the vice-president.
She will retain charge of the textiles ministry which she has been handling since July 2016.
This is the second time Ms Irani is being moved out of a key ministry.
The 42-year-old, who started as the Human Resource Development Minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s cabinet, was transferred to the Textiles Ministry, seen as a less glamourous assignment, in 2016.

Piyush Goyal will also be given additional charge as finance minister till Arun Jaitley recovers from a kidney transplant.
Jaitley has been unwell for several months and the transplant was conducted on him recently at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences.
Moreover,In Cabinet reshuffle KJ Alphons will be replaced by SS Ahluwalia as Minister of State in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
K J Alphons will now only keep the tourism ministry.
Ahluwalia was relieved of his charges as Minister of State in the Ministry of Drinking Water and Sanitation.
Irani had been given the additional charge of Information and Broadcasting Ministry in July after M Venkaiah Naidu was named NDA’s vice-presidential candidate.
She was earlier also removed as the HRD minister and replaced by Prakash Javadekar.
Rajyavardhan Rathore is now Information and Broadcasting Minister
Piyush Goyal had earlier replaced Suresh Prabhu as railway minister, who had earlier offered to resign as Railway Minister after a series of derailments.
The last Cabinet reshuffle in Modi’s government took place in September, when Nirmala Sitharaman was given charge of the defence portfolio and Piyush Goyal took over Railways from Suresh Prabhu.
